Irish motorcyclists have often to contend with poor road surfaces and sub-standard road layouts. Traffic volumes and congestion are increasing by the day and you are in all too close proximity to other traffic. We still have almost 30% of Irish road users who have yet to prove their fitness to be on the road by passing the far from exacting driving test. As a motorcyclist (the term covers mopeds and scooters as well) you do not have side impact bars, seat belts, air bags and crumple zones to protect you. The sort of accident which can leave the modern car hardly dented, could kill you. 

That means, to survive in this jungle your skills need to be of the highest possible order. Not only do you have to be a good rider, you have to be capable of avoiding others mistakes. Add to that the fact that, so the scientists tell us, it requires fives times the concentration to ride a motorcycle than it does to drive a car and we have a situation in which you cannot be too well trained.
